Hi,
I'm a newby in linux and Apache.

I'm need to protect a part of my site with username and password.
Using .htaccess is one of the better way of protection.

But when creating a .htaccess file in Write or Kate of any other editor i canot find it in my
browser.
It seems to be hidden automaticly.
How can you open it again to make changes?

Thanks in advance for helping out.

It's impossible to "find" the .htaccess file through browser. These files are protected by Apache server (there is the special directives in the httpd.conf file)

You need to use FTP to view/modify the .htaccess file.

BTW, now we're working on the new program Htaccess Generator. It will scan the all directories of your site, create the tree of the site and present any .htaccess file in any directory for viewing and modifying.

Hi thanks for your answer.
I use a program called Htpasswd Generator works oke.
But it's for Windows not for Linus.
I put a .htaccess file in a dir that i want to protect and a .htpasswd file in the root.
But Apache dont write the .htaccess file.
I changed the config file with: AllowOverride All, no result.

Do you have a hint, tip or trick to check Apache reading .htaccess file(s)
